BIG CABIN, OK – Heavy Metal Training Institute (HMTI) has been recognized as an Outstanding Educational Training Partner by the Cherokee Nation.

An award ceremony was held on October 15, 2021, at the Chota Conference Center in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Cherokee Nation leaders, members of the Council of the Cherokee Nation, and Career Services staff honored outstanding Career Readiness Act partners.

Honorees for Outstanding Educational Training Partners included Heavy Metal Training Institute, Indian Capital Technology Center, Northeast Tech, and OSU Institute of Technology.

Honorees for Outstanding Employment Partners included Cherokee Nation Businesses, Lake Region Electric Cooperative, Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO), and Tahlequah Public Works Authority

Honorees for Outstanding Individual Partners included Jerry Hooper and Shane Kirby.

Since signing the Career Readiness Act in 2019, hundreds of Cherokee citizens have already received vocational training in skilled trades such as truck driving, construction, health care, information technology, electric line work, and more.

HMTI is a premier truck driving school providing Commercial Drivers License (CDL) training in Big Cabin, Tahlequah, and Muskogee, Oklahoma. Endorsements and company training are also available. Their training practices are the most hands-on and safety-focused in Oklahoma. They specialize in small class sizes, experienced instructors, and comprehensive classes. Every HMTI graduate is fully prepared to start their new career on the road.

HMTI is currently offering several courses for commercial drivers, including Commercial Driver’s License, Commercial Learner’s Permit, Commercial Endorsements, and School Bus Permits. Participants must be 18 or older, have a valid driver’s license, pass a DOT drug test/physical, and have a good driving record. Tuition assistance for Cherokee citizens is available through the Career Readiness Act.
