We know when deciding the best place for CDL training, there are many factors to consider. We have created a list of frequently asked questions to help you decide which training option is best for you.
“What is truck driving school?”
It’s an accelerated course teaching students how to operate and drive a semi-truck. You will earn your Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) and undergo training to earn your Oklahoma CDL.
“Do I need a CDL permit before starting training?”
No. Actually, most of our students rarely have any prior truck driving experience.
“Can an 18-year-old get their CDL?
Yes, but they are restricted to in-state driving until they turn 21 years old.
“How much does truck driving school cost?”
Your tuition will depend on the training program you pick. There are also tuition reimbursement and financial aid options available.
“Can you help me find a job after graduation?”
HMTI offers job placement assistance for its students and graduates in good standing with the school. We partner with several companies in need of employees with a CDL. We can also help with resumes, applications, and interviews.
“Does HMTI drug test?”
Yes. All prospective students must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) pre-employment drug test before operating a commercial motor vehicle (CMV). You can also expect random testing as a student and testing following any accidents.
“Does HMTI accept felons?”
All applicants are considered.
“What is the difference between Class A CDL and Class B CDL?”
A Class A CDL training prepares students to land entry-level jobs as commercial truck drivers who will be able to drive over-the-road (OTR), regional, or local. A Class B CDL allows you to drive a single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of more than 26,000 pounds such as a tow truck, dump truck, delivery truck, or a utility truck.
“What if I have a Class B CDL and want to upgrade to a Class A?
You have to go through the full Class A CDL course.
“Is there housing available?”
HMTI has rooms available on the Big Cabin Campus. Rent is $1400.00 for the four to five weeks you are a student.
“How do I enroll and when can I start class?”
The first thing you need to do is submit and online application. Within a few days you’ll get a call from us to pick your start date. However, that date is not guaranteed until you are approved for funding, or you pay a $1200.00 non-refundable deposit. Classes begin every Monday.
