Heavy Metal Training Institute offers truck driver training classes in Northeast Oklahoma. New CDL classes start weekly and combine classroom instruction with on-the-road training. Generally, hours of training are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm with a 30-minute lunch break. Classes are designed for adult students (18 years of age or older). Before the first day of class, students must be 18 years of age or older, possess a valid driver’s license, and pass a DOT drug screen.

Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)

A Federally approved Entry-Lever Driver Training (ELDT) program that consists of a four and one-half week course that includes the CLP and Pre-trip inspection class. Students earn their CLP and undergo training to earn their Class A or B CDL, with no restrictions (automatic transmission is available upon request). This course includes CLP class, permit testing, DOT physical, pre-trip inspection, defensive driving, coupling, backing maneuvers, basic road skills, and commercial driver lifestyle. This program is 160 hours of a combination of classroom and hands-on technical training. **Includes three skills test appointments. If more tests are needed, a $250.00 re-test fee will apply.

Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP)

A Federally approved three-day classroom training designed to provide the required ELDT learning tools and information for students to prepare for the written exams required to obtain a Commercial Learner’s Permit. *The permit is required and must be held for no less than 14 days to be eligible for the CDL road skills exam. This program is approximately 20 hours of classroom training, provided online and can be administered off-site. **Written exam fees are student responsibility. Current fees for the written test and permit are $81.50, a retest fee is $4.00.

Pre-Trip Inspection (PTI)

A two- and one-half-day hands-on training program designed to teach students the proper method of completing a Class “A” pre-trip inspection for commercial vehicles. This course includes general vehicle safety and inspection, engine, and parts identification, coupling identification, trailer safety and examination, in-cab inspection, and air brake testing. *Pre-trip inspection is required to obtain an Oklahoma CDL. This program is 20 hours of hands-on training.

Commercial Endorsement – Hazardous Materials (HZ)

A Federally approved course designed to provide the required ELDT learning tools and information for the Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Endorsement. This program is approximately 20 hours of classroom training, provided online and can be administered off-site. **Written exam fees and TSA background check are student responsibility. Current fees to Service Oklahoma for written test are $4.00, and background check to TSA is $87.50.

School Bus Endorsement (SB)

A Federally approved classroom training program designed to provide the required ELDT learning tools and information for students to prepare for the written exams required to obtain a Class B Commercial Learner’s Permit, with School Bus and Passenger Endorsements. This program is approximately 40 hours of classroom training, provided online and can be administered off-site. This course covers General Knowledge, Passenger (P), School Bus (S) endorsements, with air brake. **Written exam fees are student responsibility. Current fees for written test are $4.00.

CDL Refresher Course (RF)

A five-day class taking previous CDL holders and/or experienced drivers through the rules and procedures in preparation for the Oklahoma CDL test. This course includes two days of pre-trip review, one day of backing skills review, and two days of defensive driving practice. This program is 40 hours of hands-on training.  **Includes one skills test appointment. if more tests are needed, a $250.00 re-test fee will apply.
