HMTI Accepting Applications for CDL Program

VINITA, OK – Heavy Metal Training Institute is now accepting applications for the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) program. This four-week course typically begins on the first Monday of each month. Participants must be 18 or older, have a valid driver’s license, and a safe driving record. Tuition assistance and scholarship programs are available.

Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) program is a four-week course that includes the CLP and Pre-trip inspection class. Students earn their CLP and undergo training to earn their Oklahoma CDL. This course includes CLP class, pre-trip inspection, defensive driving, coupling, backing maneuvers, basic road skills, and commercial driver lifestyle. Students receive 160 hours of a combination of classroom and hands-on technical training.

Other programs for commercial drivers at HMTI include:

• COMMERCIAL ENDORSEMENTS (CE): Classroom training for current CDL holders designed to provide learning tools and information for the following CDL endorsements: (T) Double/Triples, (N) Tank Vehicle (Tanker), (H) Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT), or (X) Tanker/ HAZMAT Combo Endorsement.
• SCHOOL BUS ENDORSEMENT (SB): For those needing to prepare for the written exams required to obtain a school bus endorsement. This course covers general knowledge, passenger (P), school bus (S), and air brake endorsements. This course is for a permit only.
• COMMERCIAL LEARNER’S PERMIT (CLP): Classroom training designed to provide learning tools and information for students to prepare for the written exams required to obtain an Oklahoma Commercial Learner’s Permit.
• PRE-TRIP INSPECTION (PTI): Hands-on training program designed to teach students the proper method of completing a pre-trip inspection for class “A” commercial vehicles.
